Due to childhood traumas I survived as a kid, my nervous system shuts down when I am scared there will be conflict. I too have struggled with drug and alcohol use, and disordered eating just as the author has. Even after years of therapy I still fawn, even with trusted and loved friends. But I am slowly learning to speak up when I am struggling to express myself.
